A community is coming together to show their support for the family of a woman who was murdered in Lancaster Township.
A fundraiser was held in Lancaster County Sunday to raise money for Melissa Joseph’s five young children.
The 27-year-old mother was stabbed to death by her husband, Carrington Joseph, back in May.
Sunday’s fundraiser offered everything from live music to food and fun for the kids.
All of the money raised will go to building a home for Melissa’s children, who range in the ages of nine to seven-months-old.
Cowan and the eight kids currently live in a two bedroom apartment.
She says she is amazed by the community’s generosity.
“It’s been overwhelming; amazing,” she said. “I mean these people were like strangers you know, and they like adopted our family. It’s been so overwhelming and they’re all so loving and caring,” she said.
Cowan as well as organizers of the fundraiser say Sunday’s event was also about raising awareness and educating the public about domestic violence.
