Mom arrested for letting son walk to the park alone

KID AT PARKA Florida mother is facing a child neglect charge after she allowed her son to walk to a local park alone.

The mother said her 7-year-old son is old enough but police disagreed. It all began when Nicole Gainey gave her son Dominic permission to walk from their house to the park.

Police picked up the little boy at the park and took him home that is when police arrested the mother.

The officer wrote in the report that Dominic was unsupervised at the park and that “numerous sec offenders reside in the vicinity.” But Gainer says she believes Dominic is mature enough to go the park alone during the day. She adds he always has a cell phone which she calls to check on him.

Boy have things changed. I remember as a child walking to school alone from 1st grade on. All the kids walked. I wish we had the America I grew up in , back. It wasn’t perfect but it was much better.

Times have changed in the last 20 years and you just can’t let kids walk alone, anywhere, anytime! A phone won’t help him if he’s tied up, unconscious, in the back of some pervs van!

Letting young people go anywhere alone nowadays is just not using good judgement!

Not teaching kids how to deal with adversity and protect themselves is an even worse crime. Robbing them of their childhood and giving them a false sense of security has made us a failed society which cannot and will not defend itself.

Not only are you a coward but, you are training a whole new generation of cowards. Times have changed but, courage has not. Children must learn to deal with adversity when time is of the essence. Otherwise, cower in the corner where you belong.

Maybe she did use poor judgement but does that mean that she should be arrested and now have a criminal record for a simple mistake for which she could have been simply warned about by the same police who arrested her? It seems that any offense at all today warrents arresting a person and causing them to have a criminal record. Will we next execute people for parking violations?
