The stretch of I-83 in Cumberland County at the York split is famous for its rush hour traffic. But a PennDOT spokesman says construction is on track to completely redo the whole I-83 and Route 521 interchange.
Exit 42 to Lemoyne closed permanently on Thursday night. PennDOT says it became redundant because drivers will use Exit 41-B to Lowther Street, just half a mile before the old exit on 83 Northbound. The exit lets drivers off just a couple of blocks from the old off-ramp.
“Things are moving along, next year we’ll be focusing on 581, where we have to replace the bridge over 10th Street and that’ll help widen 581 in the area,” says spokesman Mike Crochunis.
