State police in Jonestown says a thrown firework led to several assaults earlier this month.

According to police, on July 4,  Jacob Spader, 25, of Wakefield, Massachusetts threw a firework at 26-year-old Megan Hertzog’s face.  Hertzog  temporarily lost her hearing as a result. Hertzog then punched Spader in the face.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. on Eisenhauer Road in Jackson Township, Lebanon County.

Police then say Spader knocked Zachary Peffley, 26, of Myerstown to the ground, breaking his ankle.  While Peffley was attempting to stand up, police said Spader kicked him in the face, causing a broken nose and internal brain bleeding.  Peffley was hospitalized for his injuries.

Hertzog was issued a citation for summary harassment.

Spader was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, two counts of recklessly endangering and two counts of harassment.
