Police confirm that the father of an 8-year-old Harrisburg boy is facing charges in connection to his death, after the boy’s body was discovered by a family member Friday evening.

Jarrod Tutko Sr., 38, is being charged with Endangering the Welfare of Children, Concealing the Death of a Child and Abuse of a Corpse.

Police were called to the family’s home, located in the 2100 block  North Green Street, just before 9:00 p.m. Friday night. Both the Dauphin County Coroner’s office and Forensics Unit were called to the scene immediately.

According to police, the investigation revealed that at some point over the last several days, 8-year-old Jarrod Tutko Jr. had died in the home.

Police say the father, Tutko Sr., was aware of his son’s death. When the odor of decomposition became too strong, he told his wife about the dead child. She then called police.

The cause of the child’s death is unknown and police are continuing to investigate.

Police say there were five more children inside the home and several of them suffer from medical conditions. Those children are currently in the care of Dauphin County Children and Youth Services.

Tutko is currently in Dauphin County Prison. A preliminary hearing is set for August 12th.

Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact Det. Rodney Shoeman at 717-255-3183.
