Communities throughout Central Pennsylvania are scheduled to host events Tuesday to mark the annual National Night Out against crime!

More than 37.8 million people participate in National Night Out events across the country every year. Since 1984, communities around the country have gathered on the first Tuesday of August to promote neighborhood companionship and crime prevention during the National Association of Town Watch’s National Night Out.

Even those who are not able to participate in events are encouraged to take part in showing solidarity–by leaving a porch light on throughout the evening.

Here’s a list of NNO events happening in your area:

 

Adams County:

  • Gettysburg: 5 p.m. in the first block of Breckenridge Street. There will be face painting, balloon animals, refreshments and entertainment.

 

Cumberland County:

  • Silver Spring Township: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Target located at 6416 Carlisle Pike. The event will feature police dog demonstrations, ID cards for children, vendors, crafts, firefighter demonstrations and fire trucks on display.
  • West Shore Regional Police: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wormleysburg Borough Building located at 20 Market Street. Come out and meet your police officers, enjoy free food and entertainment!
  • Carlisle Police Department: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Carlisle Borough Swimming Pool, 1236 Franklin Street. There will be crime prevention and safety displays, community policing and police dog demonstrations, as well as other law enforcement presentations. Food and refreshments will be available.
  • Newville Borough Police: 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. along West Big Spring Avenue near the fountain. There will be displays from law enforcement, emergency services and public safety and community services, face painting, a bound house, free school supplies and refreshments.
  • East Pennsboro Twp. Police Department:6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Adams Ricci Park. .   There will be displays from law enforcement, fire department and EMS.  There will also be face painting, police K9 demonstrations and free giveaways. Free food, snack, and drinks will be available while supplies last.

Dauphin County:

  • Swatara Township– 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Vanatta Park located along the 4800 block of Derry Street behind 7-11. Events this year include: a frozen t-shirt contest, basketball free throw contest, water balloon toss, pie eating contest, an appearance by Hershey Medical Center’s Life Lion helicopter and “McGruff the Crime Dog”. There will be businesses and community groups present with free giveaways. There will also be free hot dogs, snacks, and drinks (while supplies last)
  • Steelton Borough- 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the Steelton Fire Department located at 185 North Front Street.  There will be food, music, games and other activities.
  • Penbrook: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Penbrook Community Park located at 31st and Boas Streets.
  • Derry Township: 5 p.m.-8 p.m. in the first block of West Caracas Ave
  • Middletown Borough: 6 p.m.-9 p.m. in Hoffer Park and Oak Hills Park
  • Royalton Borough: 5 p.m.-8 p.m. in Kiwanis park.
  • Camp Curtin YMCA:5 p.m.-8 p.m. Food, music, kids activities, free haircuts, free T-shirts, giveaways of book bags and school supplies.
  • Friends of Midtown 10th Year Anniversary & NNO Party:6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at Broad Street Market Courtyard located at 1233 N. 3rd Street.  Refreshments, music, and fun activities, all free and family-friendly
  • Hall Manor NNO Party : 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m. behind the Police Substation. Hosted by the Harrisburg Housing Authority. Food and kids activities.
  • Midtown Square Action Council Ice Cream Social: 6:30 p.m. located along Riverfront Park at Front and Herr Streets.  Activities for kids and adults.
  • South Allison Hill NNO Party: 5 p.m. -7:30 p.m. at the Heart of the Community Garden. DJ, food, service agencies, and the Harrisburg Fire Bureau.

 

Franklin County:

  • Waynesboro: 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Memorial Park. Activities include an emergency vehicle display, bike registration, kickball games, bowling with DUI goggles, McGruff the Crime Dog, display booths, car seat installations, free hotdogs, pizza, chips and water.

 

Lancaster County:

  • East Cocalico Township: 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. at Reamstown Memorial Park along East Church Street.  The night will include food, games, raffle prizes and demonstrations from local police and fire companies.
  • West Lampeter-6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Lampeter Fairgrounds. There will be free food, entertainment, prizes for all ages, a mechanical bull and tons of emergency equipment displays and demos!
  • Columbia Borough- 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Local non-profit organizations will gather in Glatfelters Park to offer hands-on activities in a festival atmosphere. This free event is open to the public.
  • Lancaster City: 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Lancaster located at 116 S. Water Street.  There will be free hot dogs and drinks, a dance-a-thon, a book giveaway and carnival-type games. A number of organizations, such as Smile Builders, Students Against Sexting and SWAN, also will be in attendance.
  •  Lititz Borough: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Lititz Springs Pool located at 401 Maple Street.  The event is free and includes food, entertainment,  a bounce castle for children and face painting.
  • Warwick, Clay and Penn Townships: 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. The Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department will host three events:
    •  Target in Warwick Township
    •  Cedar Hollow Park in Penn Township
    • Snyder Community Park in Clay Township.
      Each site will have free hot dogs, drinks and Barnstormer ticket voucher giveaways. There will be a child’s bike raffle and pedal go-karts at each site.

 

Lebanon County:

  • Annville Township: 5:30 p.m. – 8: 30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church grounds (125 Spruce Street). There will be a Police K9 demonstration, games, food, drinks and entertainment.
  • Cornwall Borough Police: 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Cornwall United Methodist Church along Alden Street.
  • South Londonderry Township Police: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Campbelltown Fire Department.

 

York County:

  • Spring Garden: 6 p.m. at Penn State York Parking Lot D
  • West York: 6 p.m. Shelly Park at Highland Avenue and Filbert Street
  • Salem Square Neighborhood Association: 6 p.m. at Lincon Charter School Parking Lot
  • Crispus Attucks: 6 p.m. at 605 S. Duke Street
  • Doctor’s Row/Union Lutheran Church: 6 p.m. at the corner of Penn and West Market Streets
  • Northeast Neighborhood: 6 p.m. at 301 E. Philadelphia Street
  • East Side Neighborhood: 6p.m. at Albemarle Park
  • Homes at Thackston Park: 6 p.m. at 300 W. College Avenue.
  • Fairview Township: 5 p.m. -9 p.m. at Roof Park next to the Fairview Township Building. The Fairview Township Fire Department will have its smoke house there, along with apparatus displays, fire prevention materials, and Sparky the Fire Dog!
  • Northern York County Regional Police Department- 6 p.m. -9 p.m. at Union Fire and Hose Company (30 East Canal Street in Dover). Everything at the event is free of charge and is open to anyone living in Dover Township, Dover Borough, Manchester Township, Paradise Township, Conewago Township, North York Borough, Franklin Township, and Jackson Township.
  • Carroll Township Police: 5 p.m.- 9 p.m. at Logan Park.
