York County residents interested in volunteering to help at-risk children are invited to a Thursday informational session held by the York County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children.

York County CASA recruits and trains volunteers to represent the best interests of a child in court. Volunteers need no prior legal experience. Children helped by CASA volunteers include those in foster care who are in need of permanent living situations. Most of the children are victims of abuse and/or neglect.

All are welcome to attend the information session at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 14. It will be held in the third-floor conference room of the York County Judicial Center, 45 N. George St. in York City.

The Information Session is aimed at providing the details of how to become a volunteer advocate for York County CASA. The presentation will include information on child abuse in York County, testimonials from current CASA volunteers, staff introductions, details on the application and training process and general information on the work of York County CASA.

Individuals can contact York County CASA at (717) 771-9754 or ADMyers@YorkCountyPA.gov for more information on volunteering or the Information Session.
