State police were forced to shoot a man after the man charges at police with a knife.

According to police, early Saturday morning State Troopers were called to the 6600 block of Reynolds Mill Road in Springfield Township, York County for a vehicle crash. When on scene, police found a 40-year-old man had struck several parked cars and a telephone pole outside an apartment complex.

Officials say when police  approached the vehicle they saw the man was cutting himself with an 8-inch folding knife. Police tried to talk to him and make him stop, when the man didn’t listen troopers tried to subdue the man by using  pepper spray and tasers, police said.

The male then turned on the  troopers and began charging at them with the knife. Police say the troopers were forced to shoot, fatally wounding the man.  The man’s name has not been released pending notification to kin.

Police are still investigating. An autopsy with toxicology  is scheduled for Monday.
