North Carolina woman finds swastika written in butter on McDonald’s chicken sandwich
Charleigh Matice took the bun off of her Southern Style Chicken Sandwich to put mayonnaise on it, and was shocked by what she saw. Matice told WCTI12 in Morehead City, N.C. that she found a swastika written in butter on the bun.
Matice says that her grandfather had fought in World War II and the anti-Semitic symbol really offended her.
“Many people died because of that symbol and it’s not something that should be taken lightly. It’s not something that should be thrown around,” Matice said.
She confronted employees, who offered to replace the sandwich, but Matice decided she would prefer to just have her money back.
“I really didn’t have an appetite at that point,” She said.
The restaurant released a statement saying that the employee has been terminated.
“We do not tolerate that kind of behavior at McDonald’s, and it’s not what we stand for personally” read the statement from owner Dulcy Purcell.
Matice says she is not upset at McDonald’s and does plan to eat there again.
