Police in Lancaster County have identified the driver an SUV involved in a hit and run crash and high speed chase last month as James Deshaujn Ross, 18, of North Reservoir Street, Lancaster.

Police say Ross in a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee did not stop to render aid in the crash along the 2100 block of Lincoln Highway shortly before 11 am on Sunday July 27. Ross is accused hitting the vehicle a second time moving it out of the way as he fled the scene. When East Lampeter Township Police caught up with Ross along the first block of Witmer Road he failed to yield to police.

Instead he drove up over a curb, through a crowded parking lot and fled westbound on Lincoln Highway East at a high rate of speed, while swerving in and out of traffic. Police gave up further pursuit for safety reasons. Ross was seen again speeding past the original crash scene. He lost control of the SUV a short distance away and crashed into the parking lot of Your Place Restaurant. 2133 Lincoln Highway East.  He jumped out of the SUV and ran away. Police searched the area but could not find him.

Ross remains at large.

Charges against Ross include Fleeing or Attempting to Elude  Police Officer, Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injury, Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injury While Not Properly Licensed and Reckless Driving.

Anyone knowing Ross’s whereabouts is urged to contact East Lampeter Township Police at (717) 291-4676.
