Local Bridge Named in Fallen Soldier’s Honor

Loved ones of Sergeant First Class Brett Walden dedicated the bridge on Route 74 between Drawbaugh Avenue and Mill Alley, in Dover, in his honor.

Walden served in Afghanistan for one tour of duty and had just started his fourth tour in Iraq.  He was killed in August 2005 when a civilian fuel truck collided with his armored Humvee while performing a convoy mission.  State Representative Seth Grove officially designated the bridge as the SFC Brett E. Walden Memorial Bridge.

Representative Grove says, “We hold the freedoms we have because the sacrifices like Brett Walden who as a green beret, their main mission is to free the oppress.”

Walden’s wife, Autumn, says, “And look up what he did and what the others did and they’re all heroes.  You don’t have to die to be a hero and they all fought and fought hard and so many don’t really know the depth of it.”

Autumn says the bridge dedication is indescribable.  Walden’s awards and decorations include the Expert Infantry and Combat Infantry badges, the Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Purple Heart.
