Distraction Theft

A Lancaster county homeowner is the victim of a “distraction” theft. The victim told police that two men appeared at her home along the 100 block of South State Street, Brownstown at about 5:00 pm Thursday and asked if she wanted her driveway sealed. She took them up on the offer.

It did not take long for the men to make their move after they began working, with one of them asking to check the victim’s electrical service box in the basement. While she was distracted, the other man stole money from inside the house.

The men sealed a small portion of the driveway claiming that they ran out of materials and would have to come back later.  The men got away with $120 in cash the victim gave them to seal the driveway and an undisclosed amount of cash stolen from inside the home.

West Earl Township Police say both men were white males, one between 20 to 30 years old, dark complexion, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a thin build, and short brown hair. He wore a red and blue striped polo shirt and blue jeans.

The other man was also between 20 and 30 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, heavyset with short dark brown hair. He wore a light blue shirt and dark pants. The men had a gray pickup truck, unknown make or model.
