A maintenance repair operation will affect traffic starting at around 6 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, on the roadway connection between the Pennsylvania Turnpike at Toll Plaza 247 and Interstate 283 in Swatara Township, Dauphin County. PennDOT maintenance crews will be conducting repair work on the Route 283 bridge that crosses over this roadway connection between the turnpike and I-283. Most of the work will affect motorists with a lane closure and shifting traffic patterns in the northbound direction – i.e., from the turnpike to northbound I-283 and from the ramp from eastbound Route 283 to northbound I-283. Southbound traffic on I-283 headed to the turnpike’s toll plaza may also be affected by lane restrictions.

The bridge repair operation under the bridge is expected to take a few hours to complete.

If time permits, the maintenance crews intend to conduct repairs to bridge joints in the deck on top of the bridge. Motorists who use this bridge that carries Route 283 over the I-283 connection with the Pennsylvania Turnpike should expect to encounter traffic lane restriction starting late Sunday morning and possibly continuing into early Sunday afternoon.

Motorists are asked to be alert to this repair and to slow down when approaching and traveling through the work zones – for their safety as well as for the safety of the maintenance crews.
