STEELTON, Pa. (WPMT)- Police are still investigating an arson that injured a Steelton woman over the weekend.

The fire at 333 South 4th Street  left Jennifer Hanzel with severe burns over most of her upper body.  Police and fire crews responded to the home on Sunday afternoon after a man called 911 to report smoke coming from the home. The caller told police that Hanzel was lying in a kiddy pool in the backyard and appeared to be burned.

Hanzel was taken to Lehigh Valley Burn Center and is listed in stable condition.

Authorities said the fire started in the second floor rear bedroom of the home and was non-accidental in nature.

The family of Hanzel have thanked emergency services for all their help. In a statement released Thursday, Hanzel’s family said they were grateful for the emergency workers and neighbors whose quick response may have saved Hanzel’s life.

“To our extended family, friends and neighbors who have reached out to us with warmth, kindness, understanding and compassion, you cannot know how much it has meant to us,” they said.

Hanzel’s family is working closely with police during their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 717-939-9841.
