After more than two years of controversy surrounding Penn State, students and fans have a message for all; they are back.
“I’ll finally be able to be like, ‘Hey, we are just as good as you are and we can finally prove it in our post season,’ so I’m just really excited,” said PSU student, Rebecca Schmiedel.
Fans in Happy Valley didn’t waste any time celebrating.
“We’re Back” t-shirts were floating around campus within just hours of receiving the good news.
The NCAA has lifted two of the sanctions imposed on the University following the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
Penn State is now bowl eligible and their athletic scholarships will be fully restored next year.
The decision was made Monday afternoon after former Senator George Mitchell released his 2nd annual report on the University’s progress.
It’s a decision many students say was a long time coming.
“Even with nothing to play for I think the team has been really showing everybody what kind of guys they have here and now that they have something more to play for, I think they're really going to do something special,” said PSU student Mark Warner.
While some sanctions were lifted, some do remain in place, that includes the 60 million dollar fine as well as the wins that were vacated from 1998-2011.
