Jessica Arrendale is being called a hero for her actions according to  WSB.  The 33-year-old mother died from a bullet to the head, but according to Jessica’s mother, Teresa Inniello, Jessica protected her daughter Cobie to the end.

Cobie’s father, 30-year old Antoine Davis, had a history of drinking and becoming abusive according to Inniello.  Davis, a former Marine, reportedly chased Arrendale though their town home until she locked herself in a bathroom.

Police say, Davis took his assault rifle outfitted with a suppressor, burst into the bathroom, and shot Arrendale in the head while she held baby Cobie in her arms.

“He shot her and they (police) don’t know how she was able to twist her body and fall literally in the opposite direction,” Ionniello said. Instead of falling onto the floor, Ionniello said her daughter fell over the toilet, dropping little Cobie into the water-filled bowl.

Arrendale’s family believes that if the baby wasn’t covered by her mother’s body, Davis would have killed her too.

Police unable to contact anyone inside the home, were reluctant to rush the house.  When officers finally stormed the home, Davis was found dead in the baby’s room.  Baby Cobie remained in the toilet, covered by her mother’s body for 13-hours before officers found her.

She is being treated a an Atlanta hospital and Arrendale’s family hopes to bring her home soon to be with her 15-year-old sister.

Friends and family have set up a gofundme page to help offset the cost of the funeral and aid in the education of Arrendale’s children.
