Thanks to a special grant, health care service will expand at some facilities in York County.

Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health Michael Wolf visited Wellspan Yorktowne Family Medicine in West Manchester Township on Thursday to announce the recipients of the Community-Based Health Care Program. The CBHCP is a grant program that aims to increase access to health care, cut unnecessary use of hospital emergency room services and encourage collaborative relationships among community-based health care clinics, hospitals and other health care providers.

The grant program will give more than $133,000 dollars to WellSpan Health in York to add behavioral services to its centers including Yorktowne Family Medicine. The behavioral health services help people who suffer from chronic health problems.

"For what we're doing in healthcare today, the opportunity to bring behavioral health into the primary care setting is revolutionary and this is really the wave of the future," WellSpan Behavioral Health Director Allen R. Miller said.

Their services will also be added to Wellspan York Hospital Community Health Center and the WellSpan Thomas Hart Family Practice Center. The grant will also help fund the hiring of 3 part-time behaviorists for those facilities.
