MANHEIM TOWNSHIP (WPMT)- Students attending Manheim Township High School will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. Friday after a bullet was found in a classroom during second period.

No immediate threat was found after the school was placed in lock down, according to a statement posted to the district’s website.

Authorities interviewed and searched each students who in the classroom where the bullet was found, according to the statement.  It remains unclear where the bullet came from.

Police are evacuating the building and all students will be searched before they leave, school administrators said.

No weapon was found in the building.

All regular activities and scheduled events will take place. School will resume as normal on Monday.

Read the full statement from administrators at Manheim Township High School:

“Manheim Township High School will release all high school students at approximately 12:30 pm today after the school was placed on an administrative lockdown this morning when a single bullet was found on the floor during 2nd period in a classroom.”

“The high school administration immediately went into an administrative lockdown and worked closely with the School Resource Officer and the Manheim Township Police Department to determine if there was an immediate threat to students.  Students in the classroom where the bullet was found was searched and interviewed.  After a thorough investigation, it was determined that there was not an immediate threat, however because it could not be determined where the bullet came from, the district, in collaboration with the MT Police Department, determined that an evacuation was appropriate.”

“All high school students will be released today at approximately 12:30 pm.  Each student will be searched before they exit the building.  Buses will be available for those students that need transportation.  An early release of the students will provide district administrators and local authorities to proceed with the investigation, conduct interviews, and search the building thoroughly.  Please note – No weapon was found in the building.  No other building is on lockdown.  All other buildings are operating as usual.

“Safety and security is the most important priority and while it may be inconvenient for the students to be released unexpectedly, we will error on the side of safety.  We take this incident seriously and we ask your help in addressing the important issue of student safety.  In order for the high school to remain a safe haven for children, we must all work together – parents, staff and community members – to provide the quality environment that our children deserve.”
