On October 26, 43 municipal law enforcement agencies throughout South Central PA will partner with Pennsylvania State Police to target combined total of 76 roadways known for high-incidences of aggressive driving related crashes.  This wave of enforcement will run from October 26 through November 22, and is part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project.

The targeted roadways have each been identified as high-incidence roadways for aggressive driving related crashes, as determined by crash data provided by PennDOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  The local counties included in this initiative are Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York.

Throughout the Commonwealth, over 330 municipal agencies will be joining efforts with the state police.

As part of the Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project the goal is to reduce the number of aggressive -driving related crashes, injuries and deaths on over 400 roadways throughout the State. Any aggressive driver stopped by police will receive a ticket.

Statewide, municipal police agencies that participated in last year’s campaign wrote 53,587 aggressive-driving related citations, including 31,150 for speeding alone. Traffic Control Signal Signs was the second most-common offense, resulting in 5,011 citations. Additionally, the enforcement brought about 51 felony arrests, 145 DUI arrests and 179 drug-related arrests
Locally, in two waves conducted earlier this year, 41 participating municipal law enforcement agencies in this region issued 4,856 citations during two aggressive driving waves.  Speeding was the number one violation at 3,188 citations, followed by Traffic Control Signals/Signs at 406.  In addition, there were 3 felony arrests, 22 DUI arrests and and 10 drug-related arrests.

The aggressive driving enforcement is a part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project and is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  Please visit www.justdrivePA.org for more information
