A Harrisburg mother and father charged with the murder of their special needs son are expected in court today.

A preliminary hearing for Kimberly Tutko and Jarrod Tutko, Sr. has been set for 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 30 at the Dauphin County Courthouse.

The Tutkos are facing several charges, including criminal homicide, in connection to the death of their nine-year-old son, Jarrod, Jr.

Jarrod, Jr., who suffered from a developmental disability known as Fragile X Syndrome, was found dead inside the Tutko family's house along Green Street back on August 1.

Law enforcement officials say Jarrod, Jr. weighed only 16.9 pounds at the time of his death.

He was dehydrated, malnourished and had been wasting away in a locked bedroom with no air conditioning, covered in feces.

With the Tutko's preliminary hearing set for Thursday, questions still remain as to why Dauphin County Children and Youth Services didn't step in, despite receiving several warnings.

One of those warnings even came from Jarrod, Jr.'s, brother who told youth workers that his dad, 'doesn't care about Jarrod, Jr. anymore.'

Officials with Children and Youth Services say they cannot comment on the details of this case because of confidentiality laws, but that they are cooperating with the District Attorney.
