A Dover Township, York County girl is learning about the joy of giving at a very young age.
Maddy Hetrick couldn't wait for her birthday. She's gotten tons of presents, but they're not for her.
She says she's "Sending them to sick people, because that's what I wanted to do for my birthday."
Maddy was inspired to share her seventh birthday with sick kids at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital a month ago, when her cousin was diagnosed with Leukemia.
Maddy's great-grandmother, Linda Poff says, "She came up with idea on her own and I think it's great she has a giving heart."
Maddy's family helped deliver 12 boxes full of goodies. Family and friends contributed to Maddy's cause by donating gifts over the last three weeks.
Poff says, "We all need to come together and take care of one another."
Sarah Miller is the Child Life Support Associate at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. She says, "Maddy and many of the children have such giving spirits at young ages and they donate their birthday presents and the fact they'll do that is amazing and shows greatness."
The hospital will spread Maddy's generosity throughout the center for daily activities like bingo, and the upcoming holidays.
