Dauphin County Commissioners review a 2015 budget that shows no tax increase for the tenth year in a row. The commissioners proposed a $246 Mil budget for 2015 that holds the line on property taxes. The county rate is expected to remain at 6.8 mills. Commissioners have been able to control costs without raising taxes in a number of ways, including contracting with a vendor to prepare food for the county's Meals of Wheels program. The director of budget and finance says the county can expect more in revenue and less in expenses.
Director, Mike Yohe says, "Commissioners made an effort about 3 years ago to look at positions and salary benefit costs and they've done a good job of eliminating positions, keeping benefits down. If you look around, it's unprecedented in this area anyways."
The commissioners will vote on approving the budget on December 17th, after a 20 day public inspection period.
