Mass casualties in crash involving horse drawn buggy and car in Lancaster County

LANCASTER CO., PA(WPMT) Multiple injuries, including children, in a crash involving a horse drawn buggy and a car in southeastern Lancaster County.  It happened at about at about 7:10 pm at the intersection of Kirkwood Pike(Route 472) and Maple Shade Road in Colerain Township.

Witnesses say a northbound vehicle with Maryland registration slammed into the multi-passenger buggy. A number of those passengers were ejected from the buggy upon impact.  Eleven ambulances including several from Chester County and a helicopter were called to the scene to assist with the injured.

A total of 8 people were transported to Lancaster General Hospital and Hershey Medical Center. So far no word on the conditions of the injured.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the crash.
