People in York, and all across the country, came together Saturday to pay tribute to our nation’s military veterans.
Fellow service members, both active and retired, along with their families, joined together to lay wreaths on graves of the fallen at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, for “Wreaths Across America Day.”

Fundraisers were held all year-long to pay for the event and in total 945 wreaths were sponsored for the ceremony.

Organizers say it's important to know the value of honoring veterans at an early age.

"The big part is teach, is to teach the next generation get them ready to know that we're going to be handing out freedoms off to them and they're going to be responsible for keeping the freedoms as we know them today," says Joan Snyder, a local Gold Star mother, who coordinated the event.

The "Wreaths Across America" tradition isn't just to honor fallen veterans, it's also meant to recognize those who have served and who are currently serving, as well as their families.
