CHRISTMAS EVE:  We’re in for a soggy Christmas Eve across the area.  Expect warming each hour through the day today.  We’ll climb into the low to middle 50s through the afternoon, with temps surging toward 60° by midnight as warm air nudges in ahead of the cold front.

TEMPRISE

Rain is heavy toward daybreak with more rain through the afternoon.  By evening, a heavy batch of rain moves in with some thunder possible.  A squall line may set up, which could bring some brief strong winds with it around midnight.  Rain closes up overnight as the cold front slips though, quickly dropping temps and ramping up the winds.  Lows will drop to the lower 40s.

RAIN CHANCES

CHRISTMAS DAY:  All the rain is out by daybreak, with gusty westerly winds at 15-25mph for the day.  It’s mostly cloudy and dry across the area as the storm system clears the Northeast.  Expect highs to bump to the middle 40s for before cooling off into the lower 30s overnight.  Have a Merry Christmas!

CHRISTMASPLANNER

TRAVEL:  Today will be a wet day for travel from the Mississippi River east to the Atlantic coast.  Expect travel delays on the road and in the air.

For Thursday, expect windy conditions for much of the Northeast and rain and snow showers moving out of New England.

WEEKEND:  By Friday, high pressure helps to bring sunshine back to our area.  Expect highs in the upper 40s.  Saturday, clouds return through the day with highs near 50°.  Sunday is a mostly cloudy day with a chance for showers as we await the next storm system.  Details are sketchy right now.

WeekendOutlook

NEXT WEEK: We’re watching the complexities of a storm system for early next week.  The models are not in agreement yet, but some are showing rain or snow or both.  Highs will be closer to seasonal averages – in the upper 30s; however, we need to get a better handling on precipitation.  Check back soon.

Make it a wonderful, joyful Christmas.  I’ll see you again on Monday!
