Two men were arrested Christmas morning in Lancaster after police say they were found in possession of two stolen handguns.

Tyler Alston, 21, and Steven J. Schweers, 24, both of Lancaster, were taken into custody after officers  responded to the 400 block of Fremont Street. They initially received a report around 4:39 a.m. about people firing guns and looking to start a fight.

Upon arrival, officers approached a group of four, which they said included Alston and Schweers. One man saw the officers and threw a handgun to the ground, police said. Police say  another man was found in possession of a gun. The men were later identified as Alston and Schweers.

Both weapons were  recovered were two  .380 semi-automatic weapons, police said. They said one was stolen in September during a Lancaster City burglary and the other was stolen from a home in Manheim.

Police stated in a  news release that a concerned citizen made the initial report of the gunfire. They said that person’s call to authorities may have prevented someone being shot.

Police also allege that Alston was found in possession of marijuana and Schweers was found with cocaine.

Alston  is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm when prohibited, receiving stolen property and possession of marijuana.

Schweers was charged with possession of a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property and possession of cocaine.

Both men are being held in lieu of $250,000 bail in Lancaster County Prison. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for Dec. 31.
