In many ways, it was a fitting finale for the Penn State senior class.   After a career filled with turmoil off the field, Senior placekicker Sam Ficken boots an extra point in overtime to win the New Era Pinstripe Bowl over Boston College 31-30.

The Nittany Lions rallied from a 21-7 deficit at Yankee Stadium.   Ficken drilled a 45-yard field goal with under a minute to go to tie the game at 24 and force the extra time.  Boston College missed their extra point after scoring on their overtime possession to make the score 30-24 Eagles.

Sophomore Christian Hackenberg connected with Kyle Carter for his fourth touchdown pass to tie the game at 30.   Ficken hasn't missed an extra point all season.   He split the uprights to spark the victory celebration.    The Lions finish the year 7-6.
