MIDDLESEX TOWNSHIP (WPMT)-A couple is facing child endangerment charges after their two young children witnessed a heroin overdose at a Cumberland County motel, police said.

Tayna M. Gibb, 27, and Jeremy A. Gibb, 30, both of Carlisle, were both charged with two counts of child endangerment.

Middlesex Township police were dispatched to the Howard Johnson along the 1200 block of Harrisburg Pike on Thursday night for a reported cardiac arrest. When officers arrived, they found Jeremy laying in the bathroom hall gasping for air and with a weak pulse. Tanya told police that Gibb’s was in the bathroom and then collapsed when he came out, according to the criminal complaint. She also told investigators that Jeremy was using heroine and she believed he had overdosed, court records state.

Gibb’s two children, age 2 and 6, were sitting on the bed watching what was happening, according to the complaint.

Jeremy was taken to Carlisle Regional Medical Center for treatment of a heroin overdose.

Officers searched the couple’s room and found an empty syringe,  a small folded paper baggie containing suspected heroin and a empty baggie floating in the toilet.

Jeremy was arrested at the hospital and taken to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. Police told Tanya she was being arrested for knowingly allowing drugs and paraphernalia in the room where her children were staying. While she was being placed under arrest, officers found a bag of marijuana hidden in her bra, according to court documents. She was taken to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $10,000.

In addition to begin charged with endangering the welfare of a child, Jeremy was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, while Tanya was also charged with possession of marijuana.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 19.

Both children were taken into protective custody and later released to a family member.
