SPRING GARDEN TOWNSHIP (WPMT)-Police are warning of a woman who may be going door-to-door in York County, pretending to be from the electric company.
Spring Garden Township Police said that around 11:25 a.m. Thursday a business owner reported that an unknown woman entered her business along the 1200 block of East Market Street and stated she was from Met-Ed. The business owner became suspicious when the woman could not show her ID or a work order.
The suspicious woman eventually left when the business owner called Met-Ed to confirm whether or not she was in fact an employee and if they had sent her to the business.
If anyone witnesses any similar behavior or is a victim of this same crime, you are asked to call the Spring Garden Township Police at (717) 843-0851.
The female suspect was described as follows:
- White Female
- 30-40 Years of Age
- 5’5″ in Height
- Thin Build
- Short Curly Blonde Hair
- Wearing a green Met-Ed shirt (Met-Ed confirmed this style of shirt had been taken out of service years ago)
- Black pants
The female left the scene in the following vehicle that was driven by a male. The male was described as:
- White Male
- 40-45 Years of Age
- Thin Build
- Round Face
- Black & Gray Hair
Vehicle
- Pick-Up Truck
- Small – Possibly a Ford Ranger or Chevrolet S-10
- White in Color
- White Cap over the Bed of the Truck
- Cap had White Tubes attached to the top of the Bed
- The vehicle displayed a black circular emblem on the driver’s side door that said “Met-Ed”
Residents are reminded to stay alert to scams.
- DO NOT allow anyone you don’t know into your home.
- Always ask for identification.
- Always ask to see a work order or permit (if they are soliciting).
- If you are unsure of who they are; call the organization or business.
