HARRISBURG, PA(WPMT) United Water Pennsylvania is asking the PUC to approve a base rate increase of $9.6 million to recover costs of capital investments across its eight county service area. It is the company’s first rate hike request since 2011.

The hike request equates to about $9.09 per month or 30 cents per day for the average residential customer.  The company says the cost of tap water will remain at about one penny per gallon for a typical family of four or most small businesses using about 3,500 gallons a month.

The proposed rate hike will help the company recoup a $91 million investment or about $1,500 per customers between 2011 and the end of 2016.

If approved the rate increase would take effect in late 2015

United Water operates 12 water systems providing service to over 166,000 people throughout 39 communities encompassing portions of Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Luzerne, Perry, Schuylkill, Wyoming and York counties.
