EAST STROUDSBURG, PA (WPMT) More than 100 students at East Stroudsburg University are suffering with a gastrointestinal infection. Of that total about 72 students reported the sickness as of yesterday. Some of those students live on campus and some are commuter students. University staff members have also reported the illness.
The university says it is working closely with the state health department. Health department officials are interviewing students to determine the exact cause of the illness.
The school is also asking students and personnel to self isolate and remain in place, in residence dorms or at home, until the symptoms pass, which should be within five days.
Other precautions in place at ESU:
o Common areas are continually being sanitized
o Hand sanitizer is in place/being put in place across campus in common areas – please use it often
o Packs of Clorox wipes will be available to students in residence halls soon to assist them in keeping room and personal areas clean and disinfected
o Wellness bags are available to all students in the Dining Hall and are being delivered to Residence Halls regularly. These bags contain Gatorade, Water, Chicken Broth and Saltines
