RARE COLD AIR:  It’s been about 20 years since we’ve seen cold like we have this morning across Central PA.  We’re starting with negative single digits, with a record low for today at 0° in 1979 looking to be replaced.  Wind chills are in the danger zone around -20°.  Avoid time outdoors this morning and give your car some time to warm up a bit.  Highs today only make it to the middle teens with winds slowly relaxing.  It’s mostly sunny and dry.  Overnight tonight, we’re into the single digits.  Stay warm!

WEEKEND SYSTEM:  Saturday, our next storm system takes shape.  Some cold air and energy from the north merge with energy and moisture from the south.  They marry and move into us for Saturday into Sunday.  It looks like we start as some snow showers Saturday afternoon, with moderate snow moving in by evening.  We’re warming aloft so it’ll be a heavier, wet snow that accumulates a bit.  For now it looks like 2-5” is possible across the area.  The snow changes over to a sleet/freezing rain mix overnight as temperatures warm into the 30s.  Sunday, we end as some rain tapering by midday.  Highs will top out briefly in the middle 40s.  Then colder air slides back in overnight.

NEXT WEEK:  Monday and Tuesday look cold again with highs back to the low to middle 20s.  It’s dry and quiet.  Wednesday, we’ll watch a coastal system glide by which could bring us some light to moderate snow showers.  We’ll keep an eye on it.  Highs are in the lower 30s.  Then colder air returns to finish the week.

Make it a fantastic Friday!
