HARRISBURG (WPMT)-Police have charged a man after he lived with a woman’s corpse for over two weeks inside his Harrisburg apartment.

Carlo Cobb, 50, was charged Tuesday with abuse of corpse.

Barbara Grant, 69, was found dead on the bedroom floor of an apartment she shared with Cobb along the 1200 block of North Front Street on Feb. 15.

Cobb told police during an interview that Grant had died on Jan. 30 after she had fallen the previous day, according to the criminal complaint. He said he did not call 911 because he did not want to be charged with homicide, court document state.  Cobb explained  that he planned to tell Grant’s caseworker on Feb. 18 that she was dead inside their apartment.

Police said Cobb had to step over Grant’s body to use the bathroom in the apartment.

Officers initially responded to Grant’s apartment for a welfare check after she had not been seen by friends or neighbors for at least a week. When police arrived at the apartment, Cobb told them Grant was dead inside.

Police said the abuse of a corpse charge stems from the fact that Cobb intentionally,  knowingly or recklessly treated a corpse in a way that he knew would outrage ordinary family sensibilities.

An autopsy revealed Grant died of natural causes associated from complications with pulmonary disease.

A warrant has been issued for Cobb’s arrest.
