A wintry mix made its way through Central PA Sunday, leaving behind some icy conditions for drivers Monday morning.
PennDOT crews worked around the clock treating the roads for snow and ice.
Some of the biggest issues were slick and icy conditions on secondary roads, side streets, as well as along sidewalks and walkways.
The wintry weather is not only affecting our road conditions, but it’s also affecting our wallets at the gas pump.
In February, gas prices jumped an average of 36 cents across our region; making it one of the steepest hikes we’ve seen in recent months, according to GasBuddy.com.
The national average is also on the rise with prices falling anywhere between $2.39 and $2.55.
Patrick DeHaan, an analyst with GasBuddy.com says February’s record cold temperatures along with annual refinery maintenance is one of the reasons behind the recent spike.
"Extremely cold weather can wreak havoc on refineries exposed to elements,” he said. “Unfortunately when refineries go offline, when it’s a surprise, it’s a surprise to the market as well.”
DeHaan predicts gas prices will continue to rise through April but will start to come down again in June.
