UPDATE:

A 65-mile section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Breezewood (Exit #161) and Carlisle (Exit #266) interchanges that was closed eastbound due to a tractor trailer accident at milepost 200.4 is now open.

Crews removed the debris and the jackknifed tractor trailer which were blocking all lanes of travel eastbound. The roadway is now clear and eastbound traffic is once again moving.

Original Report:

Crews need to remove jackknifed tractor trailer at milepost 200 in Franklin County.

A 65-mile section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike is now closed eastbound between the Breezewood Interchange (Exit #161) and the Carlisle Interchange (Exit #226) due to a jackknifed tractor trailer at milepost 200.4. There are no injuries, but the trailer is blocking all lanes of traffic eastbound.

Crews have opened the roadway enough to let the trapped backlog of traffic through, but do not have an estimated time as to when the wreckage will be cleared and the roadway reopened.

The recommended detour for eastbound motorists: Exit at Breezewood Interchange to Route 30 west (.3 miles) to Route 70 east (I-81 exit MD #26, 48 miles) to I-81 north (58 miles) to Exit #52B, Middlesex, Route 11 south to the Pa. Turnpike’s Carlisle Interchange.

Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting travelers at Breezewood during the closure. Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during the closure. Message boards will be placed to inform customers of the closure, and Highway Advisory Radio broadcasts at station 1640 AM also are being used to inform travelers.
