The Pa. Department of Environmental Protection sent a notice of violation to Dauphin Precision Tools in Millersburg Thursday after oil leaked from a pipe and went into the Susquehanna River.

Department spokeswoman Amanda Witman says DEP was called Monday evening by county 911 dispatchers after getting reports of oil on the river near the business.

Witman says the oil leaked out of a pipe in the business’s facility, “entered the basement, was sucked up by a sump pump and discharged into a storm drain, which emptied into the Susquehanna River.”

Witman estimated the total amount of oil spilled at 300 gallons.

She said cleanup began Monday, and that the majority of the oil has been removed.

“A few booms remain on the river in order to soak up any residual oil,” said Witman.
