A 28-year-old woman who crashed into a boat trailer Thursday night, was impaled by the hitch and waited six hours for someone to help her.

Megan Adams, of Lancaster, was driving down a dead end road behind the state police barracks, along the 2000 block of Lincoln Highway East, when for unknown reasons she collided with the parked trailer and boat sometime between 11:00 and 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to East Lampeter Township Police Lt. Robin Weaver, the trailer hitch went through the engine compartment and dashboard of her 2010 Honda Civic, impaled Adams through her right abdominal area, then continued through the driver’s seat and rear seat.

Adams wasn't found until 5:30 a.m. Friday when a nearby resident in the area heard her cries for help.  She was transported to Lancaster General Hospital where she under went immediate surgery.

As of Noon on Friday, Weaver confirmed that she is out of surgery and recovering.

Weaver said speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash, but there was no indication of braking.

The investigation is still ongoing.
