The parents of missing boater, Medard Kowalski, say they will know on Tuesday if the body found on Monday morning near the York Haven Hydro Station along the Susquehanna River is their son’s.

The 17-year-old was reported missing on November 30th, 2014 after he told a friend he was going hunting on an island on the river near New Cumberland, Cumberland County.

Rescue crews searched for him but only found his canoe and other personal belongings in the days following his disappearance.

The Lancaster County Coroner has not identified the body found Monday. Lancaster County is taking over this investigation because the county has jurisdiction over the Susquehanna River.

Monday afternoon, Medard’s father thanked search crews and talked about what may have happened to his son.

“Just got into a little bit of a tough situation and it’s nobody’s fault. It’s not the river’s fault, it’s not the canoe’s fault, it’s just a sad situation,” said Medard Kowalski Sr.

A prayer vigil for Medard is being held Monday night at 7 p.m. at The Pavillion at the New Market Boat Launch in New Cumberland.
