Girls in the Harrisburg City School District are learning a lesson confidence, encouragement and success. Representatives with the YWCA and students at John Harris High School spent Wednesday learning about behavioral issues among teenage girls. The high school teens organized the event called “Girl Talk” at the state museum. It included sessions with speakers who shared their personal success stories. Students say the field trip helps teens with their self-esteem.

Committee member, Naomi Mccloud says, “Everybody’s beautiful. I feel like that was a big thing because girls feel like they’re not the model on the cover of a magazine, they’re not beautiful, and that’s not true.”

“Girl Talk” is an annual program. Student committee members get help from the district’s teen parenting program to organize the event.
