Lancaster City Police are investigating multiple cases of what they’re calling reckless instances of people firing guns. The most recent happened Wednesday night in the 300 block of Coral Street.

People who live on Coral street tell FOX43 the violence is getting to be too much.

“They don’t care who’s around or who’re they’re going to hit. Or who they could possibly hit, you know,” says Tom Abel.

Abel has lived on Coral Street for 12 years… things used to be different.

“This was a nice quiet neighborhood with a lot of old folks and we got along good. We had block parties and everything else here but now it seems like nobody really cares anymore,” said Abel.

Now, Abel is on a first name basis with the Lancaster City Police, and he doesn’t like it.

“It’s getting down right ridiculous now,” said Abel.

Police say two groups of people fired 8 shots Wednesday night. Bullets hit two homes. Jermaine Hardcastle’s two kids were sleeping just feet away from where one of the bullets hit.

“Tired of it. Just hard to come outside my kids are playing and stuff like that and gotta worry about people shooting people,” said Jermaine Hardcastle.

Lancaster City Police say they’re investigating 5 cases of shots fired in the span of two weeks, all in the southwest area of Lancaster. Lt. Todd Umstead says he doesn’t think the cases are connected. But, police aren’t treating these investigations any different just because nobody has been injured.

“Our officers are very proactive in making vehicle stops, checking people, and often times those types of investigations lead to arrests of people who are possessing illegal guns,” said Lt. Todd Umstead.

Since the beginning of the year, Lancaster police have charged 13 people with various firearm offenses. Umstead says that number will only go up. His message for people committing these crimes:

“You’re placing yourself and the public at great danger. You’re committing a very serious crime that could carry some very serious jail time and we’re going to pursue you,” said Lt. Umstead.
