Construction to Begin on Several West Shore Roads in Eastern Cumberland County

Harrisburg – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) on Monday, March 30, will begin work with a construction project that includes several roads on the West Shore in eastern Cumberland County. PennDOT has contracted with Blooming Glen Contractors, Inc. of Blooming Glen, Pennsylvania, at a cost of $2,834,660 to make repairs and resurface the following roads:

· Simpson Ferry Road from Wesley Drive in Hampden Township to Rupp Avenue in Shiremanstown Borough
· Central Boulevard from Church Street to Carlisle Pike in Hampden Township
· Slate Hill Road  from approximately 400 feet west of Route 15 southbound off-ramp to Walnut Street In Lower Allen Township
· St. Johns Church Road, from Main Street in Shiremanstown Borough to Carlisle Pike in Hampden Township
· Railroad Avenue from Main Street in Shiremanstown Borough to Trindle Road in Hampden Township
· Gettysburg Road from Wesley Drive to Lower Allen Drive in Lower Allen Township

The initial work in the coming weeks will include the installation of curb-cut ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), drainage improvements (including inlets and drainage pipes), and base repair of the roadways. Milling (i.e., the removal of the top layer of old asphalt pavement) and resurfacing with new asphalt should get underway in May. The overall project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.

Motorists are advised there will be no traffic lane restrictions during the early morning and afternoon commuting hours on Simpson Ferry Road, Slate Hill Road, and St. Johns Church Road. However, between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM during the day and during the overnight hours between 6 PM and 6 AM, motorists may encounter single-lane traffic restrictions with flaggers assisting them through the work area.

Also, there will be no traffic lane restrictions between 6 AM and 8:30 AM on Central Boulevard and Gettysburg Road during the course of the project, but motorists may encounter single-lane traffic restrictions with flaggers assisting them through the work area during any other time of the day.
