FULTON COUNTY (WPMT)-Authorities are investigating after a 275 pound black bear was illegally killed in Fulton County.

A bear carcass was recently found along Tower Road in Buchanan State Forest, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Conservation officers said the male bear had been shot.

“Evidence gathered indicates this bear had been shot elsewhere and transported to the site where it was discovered,” said Wildlife Conservation Officer Justin Klugh.

The bear had corn in its stomach indicating it was possibly killed while searching for food having just come out of its winter den, Klugh said.

Records show that the bear had been trapped in  Franklin County in May 2014 for research purposes. At that time, it weighed approximately 150 pounds.
