HARRISBURG (WPMT) -- Craft breweries unite this week in Harrisburg!

Thanks to the inaugural Harrisburg Beer Week, beer fans have been given a chance to celebrate local microbrews. The eight-day event, which is taking place at restaurants and breweries throughout the capital region, started Friday, April 24 and runs through Saturday, May 2.

Harrisburg Beer Week

Over 140 events will be held during the week, highlighting Harrisburg's craft beer movement. Breweries like Troegs in Hershey, and Harrisburg's Appalachian Brewing Company, have led to microbreweries being formed like Zeroday in Midtown Harrisburg, which opened April 8.

Harrisburg Beer Week was born out of an idea in the summer of 2014 by local blogger Sara Bozich and her girlfriends Tierney Pomone, Chelsie Markel, and Colleen Nguyen. The foursome wanted to find a way to celebrate local food and drink. They teamed up with the Harrisburg River Rescue to help give donations after their Cameron Street headquarters were destroyed in September 2011 following Tropical Storm Lee.
