Pennsylvania State Police say 44-year-old Willie Morant Jr. is in custody after he led Lancaster City Police on a chase through the city of Lancaster and in the northbound lanes of Route 222 in Ephrata Township. Police say it happened around 7 o’clock Sunday morning. Police say Morant repeatedly crossed the grass median from the northbound to the southbound lanes and at times traveled towards oncoming-traffic in both directions. Officers attempted to deploy a tire deflation device on Morant’s vehicle, but were unsuccessful.

In a news release police stated they feared for their lives and fired at Morant but missed his vehicle. Morant then turned and fled in the northbound lanes for several miles until a state trooper conducted a Precision Immobilization Technique causing Morant’s car to spin 180 degrees. Police say Morant then tried to flee southbound in the northbound lanes and intentionally rammed a Pennsylvania State Police SUV head-on. Morant was then taken into custody. He faces aggravated assault charges.

Police say nobody suffered any serious injuries, but six police vehicles sustained moderate to disabling damage as a result.
