UPDATE: The Palmyra man arrested for possession and dissemination of child pornography is an employee of Palmyra Area School District. Phillip Welch, 29, is charged with 25 counts of possession of child pornography, one count of dissemination of child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communication facility. Welch was arraigned Saturday and taken to the Lebanon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 bail.

The school district issued the following statement:

On Friday afternoon, April 24, 2015, detectives from the Lebanon County District Attorney’s Office informed the Palmyra Area School District that support staff employee, Philip Welch, has been arrested for child pornography charges.

Student safety is the school district’s paramount interest. Accordingly, in light of this development, Mr. Welch was immediately suspended without pay pending completion of the investigation.

The school district has cooperated with the Lebanon County Detectives and will continue to do so.

Welch is set for a preliminary hearing on the charges on May 28th.

PALMYRA (WPMT) — A Palmyra man was arrested Friday for possession of child pornography, according to the Lebanon County District Attorney’s office.

Authorities charged 29-year-old Phillip Welch with 25 counts of possession of child pornography, one count of dissemination of child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communication facility. Welch was arraigned Saturday and taken to the Lebanon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Investigators said Welch was in possession of over 400 images of child pornography in March 2015.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 28.
