Elderly man run over in his front yard dies

LANCASTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- An elderly man, run over in his front yard, dies from his injuries.  It happened shortly after noon Friday at the intersection of Hamilton Park Drive and Spencer Avenue in Lancaster Township.

According to police the driver of a Chrysler PT Cruiser traveling west on Hamilton Park Drive struck a silver sedan traveling south on Spencer Avenue.  The driver of the P.T. Cruiser had stopped at the stop sign before proceeding.  The impact caused the sedan to cross into the front yard of a home where an elderly man and his wife were spreading mulch.  The car struck both victims and ended on top of the elderly man.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital, where the elderly man later died as a result of his injuries.  The man's wife remains hospitalized.  Their names are being withhold pending notification of next of kin.

Manheim Township Police are investigating.
