CUMBERLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Adams County Chief of Police Association honored seven officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their community in 2014. Families and friends of the fallen gathered at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cumberland Township. Other officers who lost their lives in the county and out-of-state over the years were also remembered.

Kim Weigand was among the families honoring those who lost their lives in the line of duty. Her son, Sergeant Michael Weigand of the Latimore Township  Police Department was killed in a motorcycle crash while escorting a benefit ride involving the Blue Knights motorcycle club in 2008.

"You wait for the phone call; You think you're ready for it, you gear yourself for when the phone call comes in, but in reality when it happens, your world falls apart," Weigand said. "Your heart breaks, it goes into a million pieces and you can never put it back together again."

Weigand says since losing her son, she thinks of the other officers as family.

"It's very heartwarming to see these officers are not forgotten, and that they're remembered and honored," she said. "But what one person told me the year my son was put on the National Wall  was to take a good look at all the officers around me-- standing at the National Wall-- that they all became my son. And while these officers don't replace him, they're family."

Several other officers in Pennsylvania were also honored including Corporal Bryon Dickson of the State Police Department. He and another trooper were ambushed outside of the barracks in Pike County.

Fox43's Evan Forrester was among those remembering the fallen. He had the honor of emceeing the memorial.
