SHREWSBURY, Pa.– Police in Shrewsbury are investigating after a dog was shot in its own backyard Monday evening.

The Southern Regional Police Department is investigating a shooting of a ten month old Husky/German Sheppard mixed dog that happened on Culpepper Dr.  A 15-year old boy was home alone and left two dogs outside around 5:30 p.m. After, the boy heard a gunshot.

A neighbor was summoned and the dog, Dakota, was taken to a local veterinary office and later died from the wound

Julie Pruitt, a neighbor in Shrewsbury, said, “it will at least in the meantime change how we do things with our dog and even for leaving the kids here,” she said. “The kids were on the floor and we all slept in the same bedroom so we were just scared- just terrified that this could happen here,” Pruitt said.

Police have not released any description of a subject. There is no word on a motive.

In Carroll Township, Perry County, a family dog was shot and killed earlier this month. In Lancaster last month, a Pit Bull was stabbed, but survived.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Southern Regional Police at 717-253-3944.
