LANCASTER, Pa.--People gathered in Lancaster for the fourth annual "One Rose for Every Headstone" ceremony as the sounds of a 21-gun salute, trumpets playing "Taps" and bagpipes filled the air. Participants placed a rose on the tombstone of every soldier buried at Lancaster, St. Mary's and Steven Greenland cemeteries.
It's part of a national movement that started at the Arlington National Cemetery in 2012. Last year more than 250,000 veterans' graves were decorated across the nation and nearly 1,800 in Lancaster.
The program is sponsored locally by American Legion Post #34 and Flowers by Paulette.
