Iredell County, NC — A senior prank at a North Carolina high school goes terribly wrong -ending in two teenager girls in handcuffs.
Lekia Hall and Shannon Farrell, both 18, decided to play a prank using alarm clocks in unused lockers at the school on Tuesday.
But a staff member heard the alarm clock sounds and it sparked an evacuation of the school and big response from local police and emergency crews.
Shannon’s father Dan Farrell says the girls plan was to, “take alarm clocks and put them in all these unused lockers and set them to go off every couple minutes, with zip ties, and apparently they thought it was a bomb, so now it’s out of control.”
Police Chief Mattew Selves says, “We take it very seriously and we have to get all agencies involved.”
A bomb sniffing dog was brought in, which led investigators to conclude there was no explosive device.
The chief says they also discovered threats on social media for the prank, but he just wishes someone would have contacted police first.
Student were able to return to class later in the afternoon.
Both girls were charged with one felony count each of hoax by false bomb in a public building. Police say the girls may face more charges later.
